In the early 1980's, as I told you in an earlier post, I was in the United States Navy, so, I had seen many an Air Show, and never ever felt the need to go to the Chicago Air and Water Show, of course, now that I am a Dad I have to do these kind of things...
This year for the first time the Chicago Air & Water Show (CA&WS here after) started on Friday. What better time to beat the crowd then to do it when most of the people will be at work. Since I have been out of work for so long, actually I am quite please about that, because with out so much time on my hands, I would not have gotten to the CA & WS, nor would I have perfected my camera work as much as I did in the last year, just wait until you see the butterflies...but, that is for another blog!
Lily had never seen an Air Show, so, on the advise of Marilou, we took the train down and a bus over to North Avenue Beach to watch the Air Show portion, we got there early enough that we could have driven, I should have followed my gut instinct but I did not, and Lily even got to swim a little before the show started. On the train ride down I had told Lily that the CA & WS would be very loud, and she would have to prepare herself for it. As the show went on the and the Blue Angles flew Lily said to me, "Daddy, this isn't very loud!" About a minute after she said that, one of the Blue Angles made a low level high speed pass from behind me that made drinks spill, and kids nearly cry. Everyone was shocked, I just laughed, because I felt it coming, because it was just to quite, and he was probably just under the supersonic speed...
Attached are a few of the pictures from that day!
